		<description><![CDATA[It&#8217;s no secret around AHM that I don&#8217;t care for rap or hip-hop music, or the culture that has grown up around it. I just can&#8217;t get past the homophobia, misogyny, and violence that are prevalent in some of the song lyrics and videos, a prevalence that, for me, taints the entire genre. I also have no love for the fashion that identifies so many of the people involved in the culture, or the posers who pretend to be. Women drape themselves with just enough overpriced &#8220;designer&#8221; clothes to look like cheap tarts, and dressing like a $10-a-song lap dancer is not empowering, it&#8217;s devaluing. Men dress like thugs or urban gangsters then whine when others who are not part of the culture treat them like criminals. Tsk, tsk. The least attractive aspect of rap fashion is &#8220;bling,&#8221; the ridiculous over-the-top jewelry popular with so many rap performers. We at the Mag have been thinking about writing a story condemning the fad but, according to Miguel Bustillo writing for the Wall Street Journal, bling has lost its luster.
